Extremely rare and with a magnificent portrait
Lot 1066
THRACE. Plotinopolis. Caracalla, 198-217. Diassarion (Bronze, 25 mm, 8.83 g, 6 h), 215-217. ΑΥΤ Κ Μ ΑΥΡ ΑΝΤΩΝЄΙΝΟC Radiate and cuirassed bust of Caracalla to right, seen from behind. Rev. ΠΛΩΤЄΙΝΟΠΟΛЄΙΤΩΝ The Three Graces standing facing and holding hands; those on the left and right each holding uncertain objects. Varbanov 1863 corr. (bust and obverse legend). Extremely rare. A beautiful coin of fine style with a magnificent portrait and a lovely reverse. Slightly rough and with very minor weakness, otherwise, good very fine.

From a European collection, formed before 2005.

The style and preservation of this piece are exceptional. The emperor’s radiate portrait reflects the imagery introduced with the antoninianus coins of 215, while the reverse features the popular Charites type, perfectly harmonized to suit the coin's circular design.
